Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni)

Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni) was born in Caprese, Italy on March 6, 1475. His mother died when he was only 6. From his childhood Michelangelo was drawn to arts, but his father considered the pursuit below the families social status and tried to discourage him. However Michelangelo continued to be interested in art. At the age of 13 he became apprentice of Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494), the most fashionable painter in Florence at the time. Michelangelo was recognized as a genius. He excelled at painting, sculpture, and architecture. At the age of 14 he carved a statue (Battle of the Centaurs and Madonna of the Steps), that attracted the notice of Lorenzo the magnificent. Some of his famous work of art is The Creation of Adam, The Sistine Chapel Ceiling, and St. Peters Square. Michelangelo died on February 18, 1564 at the age of 89 after suffering from a slow fever.

The Creation

The creation is considered to be a renaissance painting because the paintings and designs describe the period of European history. One of Michelangelo’s best known works is the creation of Adam, a section of the Sistine chapel in the Vatican. In the creation of Adam, Adam is the ideal young man, based on classical Rome and Greek. What Michelangelo shows in this artwork is the moment where god gives Adam his spirit, soul and intelligence. The painting reflects the changes in society because it shows how some of the kings thought that they were god like and they were trying to recreate the creation of man kind.

Also because of its painting skills and how it describes renaissance. The paintings depict nine stories from the Christian bibles book of Genesis.

St. Peters Square

St.Peters Square is considered a renaissance because this art expresses the beauty, of the human condition. Michelangelo designed the imposing dome and altered some of the original plans. The centre of Roman catholic faith, St.Peters Square draws pilgrims from all over the world. St. Peter's Square defines the true meaning of Christianity. The Vatican is the biggest worldly known group and brings the world together as one main religion.
